We can take heart from the fact that the Bauhaus has influenced the present in spite of the evil things that surround it. Putting more scholarly effort and personal identifications into the Bauhaus past of Germany than into its fascist and military past can perhaps help us to be more hopeful and creatively active in [the] present. Are you, am I, doing something humanistically motivated that those caring only about their own wealth and power disapprove of? If so, good: we have the Bauhaus spirit.
