Artworks in the Open

Curator: Viktória Oth

The new permanent exhibition, held in the courtyard of the Kiscell Museum aims to showcase a specific segment of the museum’s collections. These objects, due to their size, cannot be displayed within the museum walls, yet they hold significant importance from both an art historical and urban historical perspective.

Despite the heterogeneous nature of the exhibited artifacts, they are connected not only through their historical ties to the capital but also through their relationship to the museum’s own history. The exhibition provides insight into the museum’s collecting history and exhibition strategies, while also reflecting certain phases of art history. This context explains why a Roman sarcophagus, a 19th-century column capital, and a contemporary artwork are displayed side by side.
