Time capsule (Vitrin 3.11)

1873
Lead

Buried presumably during the 19th-century constructions under the plinth of the shrine, this cylindrical lead time capsule was found in 2015, when the ciborium designed by Storno was removed as part of the 21st-century renovation of the church. The mark of a pickax strike from the excavation is clearly visible on the lid. The cornerstone ceremonies of notable buildings or reconstructions often included leaving messages for the future. The Pannonhalma time capsule served a similar purpose; its contentsecoins, an Our Lady of Loreto medal, icons, a rosary, records and photographs documenting the life of the Benedict order-embody its time.
