Logo of the Pannon Sea Museum

Lymnocardium (cockle)

The logo of the Pannon Sea Museum was made by Edina Tiszai graphic artist upon the idea of Imre Magyar in 2013. The base of the logo is the outline of a cockle.
Cockles belonging to the subfamily Lymnocardiinae of the Cardiidae family were characteristic and common organisms of Lake Pannon. They evolved from marine species through gradual adaptation to conditions of reduced salinity, in a body of water closed or partially closed of the seas. Hundreds of native species evolved from their ancestors and lived in Lake Pannon approx. 13–4.5 million years ago, in the Middle and Upper Miocene and the Pliocene age.
