Flying animals and machines are kept in the air by lifting power.
But how exactly in case of wings?
In the figure, the white lines demonstrate the flow of air around a wing profile. The wing deflects the air particles from their straight motion, which follows the wing’s characteristic shape below and above. The air above will flow faster than below and creates a pressure difference, which is the cause of the lift.
