1770s: Missing creatures?
It was began to be accepted that previously such creatures lived on Earth which had already disappeared. Georges Cuvier, a French scientist, studied bones which were clearly identified as remains of an extinct animal. These belonged to an ancient marine reptile called Mosasaurus.
