On the vicinity of Olenevo, geologist G. L. Piotrovsky described an organic mineral from a mineral association with organic content at the contact zone of basaltic andesite and Tertiary flysch in 1955. He named it carpathite after the Carpathians. Carpathite corresponds to the coronene known from organic chemistry, which is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon having the formula C24H12. At this site, it forms yellow or orange masses with resinous lustre in the vicinity of brownish-black bitumens. It is an extremely rare mineral, with few known localities in the world.
