Jedaiah Bedersi (c. 1270 – c. 1340) wrote a book with the title ‘The Examination of the World’ after the banishment of the Jews from France (1306). The poem that deals with Jewish history also sums up the events of the expulsion from France. His work became such a great success that it was one of the first Hebrew printed books, and was followed by an additional sixty-seven edition, completed with commentaries. There were manuscript copies as well, like the one in our collection, which was written in 1562.
