The Torah Scroll

The Torah Scroll, containing the Five Books of Moses, is the most sacred and central reference of Jewish religion. According to the Jewish tradition, Moses received the Torah from God on Mount Sinai, together with the verbal explanations and the commandments. Strict rules apply as to the writing of a Torah scroll, to be performed by a sofer (scribe), on kosher parchment, in ink to comply with the ritual laws.
