According to the inscriptions, the curtain (parochet) was a donation by Wolf Boskowitz in 1772 to the Alt-Ofen (Old Buda) synagogue. Legend had it that it was a gift from Queen Maria Theresa to the community. This is one of the earliest relics of the Budapest Jewry, therefore it was often borrowed for various festive occasions of the Jewish Community of Pest, thus emphasizing the historic legitimacy of the younger community of Pest.
