The culture of swimming and bathing has always had an important role in civilisations across the centuries. In ancient times, these activities were associated with religious rites or were a necessity for survival. Now they are enjoyed as forms of recreation or competition. Swimming is both a learned skill and an artistic performance, so it is no wonder that it has been a constant inspiration for artists since the beginning of time.
